A Dream’s Call to Wisdom: Hagia Sophia on My Heart

“ Even sleepers are workers and collaborators in what goes on in the universe.”

(Attributed to Heraclitus, an ancient Greek philosopher who lived around 535–475 BCE)

Recently, after returning to New Mexico from a trip back East, I was blessed with a seminal dream. I’ve only had a few such dreams in my lifetime and each time they riveted me to my core. This was one of those rare experiences where I awoke with absolute clarity, the details seared into my memory. In the dream, I was asleep in bed when I felt an internal call: “Go to Albuquerque, A family wants to work with you there.” I opened my eyes in the dream and found myself gazing out at a stunning vista that reminded me of New Mexico, with a grand building, where the family lived, in the distance— in the dream I asked myself “Is that Hagia Sophia?”

Curiously, my next thought was unimpressed: “I’ve worked with important people before; why would this be different?” On reflection, the dream highlighted something deep within me—status and wealth had lost their significance. What mattered was a genuine yearning for healing, wisdom and connection, which often transcend the external.

When I woke up in this world, I immediately felt called to my journal. As I reflected on the dream, I sensed its significance but wasn’t fully sure why. Hagia Sophia—means “Holy Wisdom” in Greek—is a structure of immense historical, political, and spiritual importance, standing at the intersection of Christian and Islamic traditions. Historically, it’s been a symbol of divine wisdom and a spiritual meeting point.  Never having been there, I quickly looked up Hagia Sophia online and there was the grand shrine like the one in my dream…interesting that it would be placed in Albuquerque, not Istanbul where it actually exists…Perhaps the call is near…right down the road so to speak?

Could my dream be calling me to connect more deeply with my own inner wisdom? It certainly seemed likely.  Was there something waiting for me to discover, hidden in the layers of this ancient symbol?

I continued journaling, exploring how the majestic Hagia Sophia, towering across the landscape of my dream, might be a mirror for my own spiritual journey. The dream’s imagery nourished me, inspiring both the outer structure and the inner sanctum I’d been visualizing in my meditations. And suddenly, everything connected. I had just released a module on “Accessing Higher Wisdom”—a module that encourages people to carve their own spiritual path for connection.  One of the ways to do so is through dream journaling. My dream seemed to confirm that I was indeed on the right path, not just teaching others but also being invited to deepen my own work with dream wisdom.

Hagia Sophia’s rich symbolism—representing the meeting of the divine and the human, the known and the mysterious—served as a reminder that dream symbols often carry messages that speak directly to our soul’s journey. In my case, it called me to trust the process of sharing my passion for creativity and healing more freely and deeply.

Dreams are more than just stories spun by the subconscious; they are often sacred communications. When we begin to tune in, we create space for a deeper knowing to speak to us, and our dreams can lead us toward greater insight, creativity, and healing.

Reflection

Have you ever had a dream so vivid, so profound, that it seemed to emerge from the very core of your being? A dream that helped you navigate a challenge, suggested a new path forward, or delighted you with an unexpected and meaningful combination of images? You may have felt visited by a loved one who’s passed, or perhaps you received a clear call to action—a signal that it’s time for a change.

Dreams have long been regarded as portals to higher wisdom. Across cultures and throughout history, dreams have been seen as sacred spaces where the divine whispers guidance to us. From the ancient Greeks consulting the Oracle, to indigenous shamans receiving visions, and even in modern Jungian psychology, dreams are revered as powerful tools for insight, healing, and transformation.

In today’s spiritual practices, tuning into dream wisdom can be just as potent. And one simple way to start? Keeping a dream journal. This sacred practice helps unlock the guidance that our subconscious—and the universe—provides nightly.

How to Harness Dream Wisdom in Your Life

Keep a Dream Journal
This is the simplest yet most effective way to connect with your dreams. Keep a journal by your bed and, as soon as you wake, jot down whatever you remember, even if it feels insignificant. Over time, you’ll start to notice patterns, recurring symbols, and deeper messages. Journaling creates a bridge between your waking and dreaming selves.

Reflect on Dream Symbols
Dreams communicate in the language of symbols. What does an image like Hagia Sophia mean to you? The key is to trust your intuitive interpretation, alongside traditional meanings. This practice allows you to tap into personal and collective wisdom.

Practice Lucid Dreaming
With practice, you can become aware that you’re dreaming while still in the dream state. This opens the door to profound inner exploration—you can ask questions, explore symbols directly, and even receive guidance in real time.

Meditate Before Sleep
Prepare yourself for insightful dreams by meditating or setting an intention before you go to sleep. Whether you’re seeking guidance on a specific issue or just opening yourself up to receive whatever comes, this practice can invite deeper, more meaningful dreams.

Why This Matters for Personal and Spiritual Growth

  1. Unlocks Inner Wisdom: Your dreams are a gateway to your subconscious, where your deepest wisdom resides. By journaling and reflecting, you begin to uncover messages that are guiding you toward greater self-awareness and personal growth.
  2. Strengthens Intuition: The more you work with your dreams, the more your intuitive senses sharpen. Dreams often reveal truths that your conscious mind resists, and paying attention to them helps you trust your gut feelings in waking life.
  3. Aligns You with Divine Guidance: Many spiritual traditions believe that dreams are messages from the divine, offering guidance or insight. When you engage with your dreams intentionally, you open yourself up to receive more frequent and meaningful communications.
  4. Facilitates Personal Transformation: Dreams often reveal hidden fears, desires, or conflicts, giving you the chance to heal and transform. Working through these layers allows you to grow spiritually and emotionally, embracing new potentials in your life.

In the end, the wisdom of your dreams is always available—waiting to guide you toward deeper self-awareness, spiritual insight, and personal growth. All you need to do is be curious and listen.

My next steps?  First, I plan to sketch the majestic Hagia Sopha and reach out to some friends from Turkey.  I’ve already begun to research the price of a ticket to Istanbul…and I can always drive to Albuquerque…Who knows exactly where this wisdom will guide me, but I feel on track to carving my own spiritual path full of beauty, inner light, stillness, and mystery.

How do you access your own depths to embrace your inner wisdom?.
